On completion of the Course, you should be able to:

  1. Generate business ideas and select the most promising and innovative ones,
  2. Define your business model and identify your critical business assumptions,
  3. Gather appropriate and sufficient data to validate or invalidate your critical business assumptions,
  4. Develop a successful and innovative business plan,
  5. Implement your business plan and gather additional data for future planning, and
  6. Estimate the value of your business and raise additional capital for expansion or future planning.

Course Modules 1 – 7

Module 1:        Business Idea Generation

Learning Objectives:

On completion of Module 1, you should be able to:

  1. Identify problems (or unfulfilled needs) from the business environment that you or someone else faces,
  2. Describe the current solution (if any) to the identified problem (or unfulfilled need),
  3. Design your potential solution to the identified problem (or unfulfilled need),
  4. Rate your solution by using an acceptable criteria
  5. Prioritize and choice business idea that will have the best outcome.

Module 2:        Business Model and Critical Assumptions

Learning Objectives:

On completion of Module 2, you should be able to:

  1. Define your business model,
  2. Describe your business model canvas,
  3. Identify your most critical business assumptions,

Module 3:        Data Gathering

Learning Objectives:

On completion of Module 3, you should be able to:

  1. Choose appropriate methods to collect all data required,
  2. Generate data required to validate or invalidate your critical assumptions,
  3. Appraise the impacts on your business model and prioritization of business ideas

Module 4:        Building a Successful and Innovative Business Plan

Learning Objectives:

On completion of Module 4, you should be able to:

  1. Define the business scope,
  2. Create mission, vision, values and strategic objectives,
  3. Identify your critical success factors (CSF),
  4. Identify your target market,
  5. Carryout market analysis,
  6. Carryout competitors analysis
  7. Develop your marketing plan
  8. Determine your business structure
  9. Develop your financial plan
  10. Describe your business model canvas
  11. Identify and analyse your business and financial risk

Module 5:        Implementation and Follow up

Learning Objectives:

On completion of Module 5, you should be able to:

  1. Measure success or failure using key performance indicators (KPIs),
  2. Develop and implement action plan where necessary,
  3. Provide for monthly budget where necessary,
  4. Generate new data and insights where required,
  5. Appraise impacts on your business plan and business model,
  6. Design a statements of confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements

Module 6:        Value Estimation and Raising Additional Fund

Learning Objectives:

On completion of Module 6, you should be able to:

  1. Analyse the business financial strength using an integrated financial statement models,
  2. Build financial models,
  3. Carryout performance analysis,
  4. Estimate the business value using acceptable valuation methods,
  5. Approach investors, venture capitals and other providers of funds
  6. Design an investor and start-up term sheet

Module 7:        Practical Session

Module 7 is practical and will test your understanding. It deals with the following:

  1. Examples,
  2. Illustrations,
  3. Case Studies, and
  4. Capstone Project.

Attendance is either by Physical or Virtual
